Pirate Rendezvous – Damariscotta, Maine
Posted on June 15, 2009
Damariscotta, Maine just had the most amazing event this past Saturday, June 13th. It was the second annual “Pirate Rendezvous.” The entire town was completely packed, featuring the Mystic Pirates of Damariscotta, who came in two pirate ships and took over the town at high noon.
Nearly every child that attended was dressed up in pirate attire, wielding plastic swords, wearing head bands and eye patches. Some had a hook at the end of their arm, mimicking Captain Hook, others were having mock sword fights and some were having their faces painted.
There were musicians, reenactors, story tellers, book signings, and games. After the pirate ships anchored and came ashore, pirates and children alike took over the town. It was an exhausting day but so much fun! Despite all the rain we’ve been having, this particular day was sunny and warm!
Here are just a few pictures I took. If you want to see the rest (all 150 of them) I have two galleries – one all color and the other all black and white and sepia. I personally think the black & white & sepia are much more dramatic. Take a look HERE.

I was one of the Pirates at the Rendezvous on Saturday. These photo’s are stunning! You did a fabulous job. I’d be interested in possibly obtaining a copy of one of myself.
Thank you.
Darlene
it is so great to see these amazing pictures. I know I live a long way from you in the UK, but you make me feel like I was actually there!
What a fantastic collection of pictures. You have captured the innocence and beauty of these delightful children to perfection.
Congratulations my friend on a marvellous series.
Best wishes

Hi Darlene,
Sorry to say I don’t recognize any of the cute kids in the pictures. Great photographic work, though.
Wonderful pictures! my son and I were reenactors that day, part of the S/V Sarah Mead crew (green sloop). Fun day and thank you for letting me remember it through your work! Well done.

Am doing a new website for the Town of Damariscotta… I liked some of your photos so I wanted to give you the opportunity to share photo for the event blog Im creating (where you keep your watermark on the photos) in order to promote your photography. Just a thought. Anything helps these days for us photographers
Best regards,
Josh
