Spring Quotes

Posted on April 3, 2010

Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.  ~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters of Rainer Maria Rilke

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.  ~Proverb

And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth’s dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.
~Percy Bysshe Shelley, “The Sensitive Plant”

Spring has returned.  The Earth is like a child that knows poems.  ~Rainer Maria Rilke

If you’ve never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom.  ~Terri Guillemets

People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball.  I’ll tell you what I do.  I stare out the window and wait for spring.  ~Rogers Hornsby

Boothbay, Popham Beach and Wiscasset, Maine

Posted on March 30, 2010

Even though it is technically Spring, I call it the in-between season.  It doesn’t look like Spring, unless you get up close to the ground and notice new grass rising from the earth.  Or bulbs parading their greenery.  Or the maple trees swelling buds.  There is a golden brown and skeletons of gray.  Ah, but the robins have come out in full force and the snow is completely gone.  In fact, the snow has been gone for a long time now.  So unusual for Maine.  But this has been an unusual year on many levels.

We had a day in March that felt like summer, and people behaved like it was summer, too.

My visit to Boothbay Harbor proved that winter still lingered, although the one store I found open begged to differ.

There is just something about railroad tracks that I simply love.  I love the way they look and the way they seem to meander forever and ever, inviting one to dream and explore.

“Secret Garden” comes to mind when I’m here.

There is simple beauty in everything.  I truly love how photographing the ordinary can create peace for me.
