Boothbay, Popham Beach and Wiscasset, Maine

Posted on March 30, 2010

Even though it is technically Spring, I call it the in-between season.  It doesn’t look like Spring, unless you get up close to the ground and notice new grass rising from the earth.  Or bulbs parading their greenery.  Or the maple trees swelling buds.  There is a golden brown and skeletons of gray.  Ah, but the robins have come out in full force and the snow is completely gone.  In fact, the snow has been gone for a long time now.  So unusual for Maine.  But this has been an unusual year on many levels.

We had a day in March that felt like summer, and people behaved like it was summer, too.

My visit to Boothbay Harbor proved that winter still lingered, although the one store I found open begged to differ.

There is just something about railroad tracks that I simply love.  I love the way they look and the way they seem to meander forever and ever, inviting one to dream and explore.

“Secret Garden” comes to mind when I’m here.

There is simple beauty in everything.  I truly love how photographing the ordinary can create peace for me.

Spring Time Baby Goats and Miniature Horses

Posted on March 23, 2010

Can there be anything more precious than new life?  I love going to Stones Edge Farm, especially in the spring time when baby goats are arriving.  And when three new miniature horses have been added to the herd.  One who is going to foal in May.  One who is the most adorable yearling, who looks like a little Fjord.  And one who has the coloring of a Rocky Mountain horse – she is absolutely gorgeous!  But I’m a sucker for long, flowing manes, especially flaxen manes against dark brown.  She has one blue eye, too.

I love where I live.  I am so lucky to have the ocean near by, farm animals on my little plot of earth, and beautiful farms to visit.  Here are some of the beauties at Stones Edge Farm.  If you live near Newcastle, Maine you should make sure you come for Open Farm Day – Sunday July 25th.  It’s a lot of fun and you get to see what I’m talking about first hand.  Lots of horses and goats and Bernese Mountain Dogs, all on a 30 acre spread of rolling pastures.

Are these babies not irresistible or what!!

Meet the new ladies

Yep, a mini Fjord!

Isn’t she just stunning!

I’m in love with this horse.  Okay, I’m in love with all horses!

Here’s the pregnant mare.

And here’s the lucky one who gets to play with them everyday!
