Two days in a row taking photos of children . . . bliss, I tell you, bliss!!  Kids are easy to do sessions with.  All I have to do is go with their flow in a fun environment and ta da -  magic happens!  These three were beyond adorable, and so cooperative.  Gotta love it when no one is shy in front of the camera!  Thank you Jessica and Nat for sharing your children with me!  I hope you like your sneak peek.  More to come!

Santa arrived at Stonewall Stables in Nobleboro, Maine this past Sunday on a horse drawn wagon.  It was a cold, gray, blustery day, but your hearts were soon warmed by simply looking  into the eyes of all the children.  It was there that the magic and joy of Christmas could be seen and felt.

A lot of the children were very excited to be able to give Santa a gift – their very own pictures which they proudly drew for him.

Thank you, Santa, for coming!  And thank you, Virginia, Chad and Ava for opening up your farm to share some of the Christmas spirit with everyone!

Custom photography is like stew or a good bottle of wine – it can’t be rushed and no short cuts should be taken if you want the end result to permeate your senses.  Sometimes the best thing to do is leave it alone for awhile and come back when you are fully charged with new energy, otherwise you could spoil the whole creative process in your hurried attempt to be done.  Yes, as photographers we have to give ourselves and our clients a time line, but it must be understood from both parties that time is essential if one is wanting something more than a simple snapshot.

If this isn’t a moment of bliss I don’t know what is!

I have always been a morning person, at least in my adult life I have.  I’m in love with the light that morning delivers, in a way unlike any other time of day.  Yes, I love the golden hours before sunset, but morning is usually draped in dew and this creates a magic that is so pleasing, especially behind the lens of a camera.

This image reminds me of the childrens book, Stella Luna.  The leaves look like bat wings.

For those of us who live in Maine, it’s a known fact that somewhere in the midst of all the winter months, we do nothing but dream about the return of summer. However, when you are blessed with a January thaw and the temperatures soar above 32 degrees, there is a special magic that soothes us. Over the years I have developed a true love for the peace and quiet that winter gives. The extreme temperatures, in both summer and winter, are the most difficult for me to tolerate.

About a week and a half ago I was at a friends house. When I arrived it was still pretty cold, but it slowly warmed. She has two beautiful children, a huge herd of goats, horses and three Bernese Mountain dogs. Speaking of dogs, if you should ever want the most gentlest of giants, the Bernese Mountain dogs are amazing. Below you will see some images of their interactions with the kids.

I’ve been trying a new approach with my photo editing. I’m learning the art of combining textures with vintage actions. I’m loving how the pictures take on a completely different meaning. Or maybe what’s really happening is the true meaning is shining through. What do you think?

I am continually awed by how light can either make or break a photograph. Yes, I have gone out with my camera on a cloudy day and the images captured were beautiful. They even glowed with a particular light found only on cloudy days.

What I love, however, is the sunlight that exists towards the end of the day or the first couple of hours after sunrise. “The golden hours.” The magic of light.

I absolutely LOVE the Fall season!  For me, the colors signify accomplishment and a brilliant end to the busy, full days of Summer.  I love the turning maple leaves, but even more, I love the opened pods of  milkweed.  For the past month as I drive to and from town, I’d scout the roadsides for the first signs of this amazing plant.  And today, on my way home from a massage session, I actually had time to stop and photograph some.  I was hoping for the sun to be shining because I love how the light illuminates the cottony white.  The sky was overcast  but I love the results anyway.  The problem I’m having is choosing a favorite.  One may wonder, how many images of a milkweed one can take?  After all, a milkweed is a milkweed, looking just like the last milkweed. Wrong!
