This year Labor Day was all about families with children, but this was the only session with a little girl. Not just any little girl, mind you. To me she is a princess and in this case, a Pemaquid Beach Princess! As with many two-year-old children, she wanted nothing to do with me and my camera. In fact, mom and dad were the only two people allowed in her world. I thought, well, okay, I'll just be a fly on the wall . . . or sand! It took roughly an hour before running in the water and throwing seaweed was far more enticing than trying to avoid me.
The beach is her happy place, which I was fortunate to be a part of last year. I think it's amazing how one year can make such a difference in a child's life. This little miss has grown into a phase of wanting independence but with an eye on mom and dad.
A Pemaquid Beach Princess
It might be hard to tell, but the four photos above were taken during the time she was upset. I think it's important to remember all the phases of your children's life - the smiles and the tears.
She spent the majority of the time running towards the water with a handful of seaweed to toss into the waves. Can we adults learn to enjoy such simplicity in the way a child does?
The surf was wild on this day! Remnants of Hurricane Hermine.
If this is not a happy child, I don't know what is! Ah, to be little again!
It wasn't easy to wrangle her in to stand still for a few seconds in order to get a family photo, but we managed! I have a few more, which you'll see once I finish editing the rest. Hope you enjoyed your preview!
